Our Lady of Lourdes Parish
Guidelines for Religious Education
MASS:
Parish telephone: 508-586-4715
Marcia Walkama: FC 1-Grade 8 Coordinator: mhwalkama@aol.com
Faith is first experienced in the family, supported by the parish community, and modeled through service to others. Thus, it is expected that families will participate in Mass each week, and give of their time, talent and treasure to the parish. Our Lady of Lourdes encourages younger children to participate in the Children's Liturgy of the Word, allowing them to come to a deeper understanding of the Sunday scriptures at a level of understanding geared to them. Additionally, a service component will be a part of each grade level of our religious education program.
COMMUNICATION:
Communication with families is of utmost importance and is done by means of the weekly church bulletin, the parish web site and by email to parents from the coordinator. If you do not use email on a regular basis we ask that you be sure to check for announcements a day or two before and again after each class. This will help keep you informed of any changes in schedule, activities, or meetings with parents. Parents will receive a calendar of classes and important dates at the beginning of the school year.
CHANGE OF FAMILY INFORMATION:
Families who change address, telephone number, or email address during the year must notify the Religious Education Coordinator in writing.
ABSENCES:
It is expected that students attend every class and strive for no more than 3 absences per year. Parents should notify the coordinator of any circumstances resulting in extended absences and be prepared to teach the child at home if necessary.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE:
A parent/guardian should accompany children in First Communion 1, 2 grades 3 and 4 to their classroom. These same children must be picked up at their classroom by a parent. Parents of children whose classes meet in the rectory should wait on the rectory porch for their child. Parents of students in grades 5 - 8 are encouraged to follow this same procedure. For the safety of all students no one will be dismissed from class to the parking lot without an adult present. If a parent is delayed in pick up an aide will wait with children in the side entrance to the church or on the rectory porch. The safety of your child is our paramount concern and a teacher or aide must see who is taking each child. Please make every effort to be prompt.
CONDUCT:
Students are expected to be respectful and courteous toward all. Disruptive behavior is not expected nor permitted. Parents will be notified of any problems. Cell phones must be turned off when in the classroom or church.
PARENT MEETINGS:
Parent sessions will be held on all grade levels and announced well in advance in order for parents to clear schedules to attend. Please record these dates when announced so that you will be present.
STORM CANCELLATIONS:
During the stormy winter months the policy regarding cancellation of classes will be: if the Brockton Public Schools are closed classes will not meet. Every attempt will be made to place "no class" announcements on television channels 4, 5 and 7. Parents are always to use their own discretion regarding travel to the parish for class if the weather is stormy.
